All June, our new skills hub in Swansea is hosting activities, training courses and events to help you get your Foot In The Door of the creative industries.
If you’re local and 18 or over, sign up at our skills hub at HQ Urban Kitchen to discover new skills and create the right connections. You don’t need any previous experience – just an interest in exploring the exciting opportunities available in film, TV and beyond.

What's On
From scouting locations to running a film festival, our series of introductory two-day training courses covers a wide variety of skills to help kickstart your creative career.
- Introduction to Production Design with Joëlle Rumbelow. These workshops will cover the fundamental principles and practical skills involved in creating visual elements for film, television and other forms of media production.
- Introduction to Costume in Industry with Zep Agopyan. A hands-on introduction to working in costume, and some of the different roles / avenues available.
- Introduction to locations for film & TV with Hannah James-Johnson. An introductory course into the Locations Department for Film & TV production.
- Planning, programming and delivering a film festival with Grant Vidgen, Iris Prize LGBTQ+ Film Festival. Learn how to plan, programme, promote and present a small film festival.
- Realistic film and TV casualty special effects makeup with Danny Marie Elias, Square Peg Studios. Learn how to create realistic 2d transfer effects and 3d realistic casualty makeup.

About Foot In The Door
Ffilm Cymru Wales’ award-winning training programme Foot In The Door offers people new opportunities to develop their transferable skills into creative careers.
Since 2016, Foot In The Door has provided screen sector skills programmes across Wales, as well as new entrant training placements on local film and TV productions like Dream Horse, Keeping Faith and Netflix’s Sex Education.
In 2024, with funding from the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund and in partnership with local councils and organisations, Ffilm Cymru Wales are offering new Foot In The Door opportunities to people in Swansea.
This project is funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, in partnership with Skills For Swansea, Gower College Swansea and Swansea Council. The UK Shared Prosperity Fund is a central pillar of the UK government's Levelling Up agenda and provides £2.6 billion across the UK, of funding for local investment by March 2025.
