New Ffolio programme tunes in for innovative audio projects

Now in its second year, Ffolio is an exciting partnership between Ffilm Cymru, BBC Wales, BBC Arts and the Arts Council for Wales, which offers training, mentoring and BBC commissioning opportunities to creative people in Wales. Whether you’re a dancer, blogger, musician, writer, photographer, graffiti artist, games designer, puppeteer, circus performer or animator, Ffolio is a new chance to celebrate your creativity.

Through this new round of Ffolio, creative talent in Wales will get support to develop audio projects that will be shared across a variety of BBC platforms on air and online. Audio ideas can be funny, serious, provocative, or experimental, but they should have something to say. They should get people talking and sharing, and they should push boundaries through story, sound, and structure.

People longlisted for Ffolio will also receive tailored training, expert mentoring, and bursaries for travel, childcare and accessibility requirements.  

A new round of Ffolio for short films will open in May 2021. Last year, twelve short films were commissioned through Ffolio, reflecting Wales’ rich variety of creative talent. The films currently in production include ballet dancer Krystal S. Lowe’s Daughters of the Sea, art director Oliver Gabe’s The Sin Eater, and photographer Ashrah Suudy’s Room Full of Sisters.

“My experience with Ffolio has been amazing so far,” says Ashrah. “As a photographer, it has allowed me to get out of my comfort zone and challenge myself creatively. This is an experience I’m truly grateful for, and I encourage others to grab the opportunity and apply!”

Ffilm Cymru’s Ffolio Project Manager Amy Morris says: "It's really exciting to be launching our second year of Ffolio with the new audio strand, and to continue with the short film programme in 2021.  We received over 300 applications from diverse talent across Wales in 2020, and we can't wait to see and hear new ideas this year."  

Ffilm Cymru are also hosting free Ffolio Talent Surgeries. These 30-minute, one-to-one chats will be an opportunity to discuss your ideas with guidance from the Ffolio team, as well as information about Ffilm Cymru's other training opportunities and funding support.
