Uzma Hasan
Uzma is a film producer whose latest feature film Creature is a ground-breaking, genre-busting collaboration between Academy Award winner Asif Kapadia (Amy) and Lawrence Olivier Award winning choreographer Akram Khan (Desh). Current projects include a musical with Ritesh Batra (The Lunchbox) and Amazon Studios, a period sports movie with novelist Nikesh Shukla (The Good Immigrant) and BFI, and a Macbeth inspired thriller set between London and Karachi with playwright Rabiah Hussain (Spun). Previous films include Nirpal Bhogal’s Firstborn, which sold to Netflix in a worldwide deal, and The Infidel, which spawned a musical and Bollywood remake Dharam Sankat Mein.
In addition to producing, Uzma is Chair of the Bush Theatre, home for new writing and talent and has stepped down from the board of Ffilm Cymru Wales in order to take up the role of Interim CEO. She was previously a non-executive director on the board of Channel 4 and a trustee of Bird’s Eye View, a non-profit that campaigns for gender equality in film. She studied Film and Literature at Harvard’s Graduate School of Arts and Sciences as a Kennedy Scholar.
