Still Pushing Pineapples in UK and Irish cinemas from 28 November
Still Pushing Pineapples is the latest feature documentary from director Kim Hopkins, producer Margareta Szabo and co-producer Nan Davies.
Funny, tender and unmistakably British, the film follows former Black Lace singer Dene Michael, best known for the 1980s anthem Agadoo, as he tours Britain’s working men’s clubs and the Costa del Sol with his 89-year-old mum Anne and girlfriend Hayley, chasing one last shot at stardom.
Opening this year’s Sheffield DocFest to critical acclaim, Still Pushing Pineapples continues Hopkins’ exploration of working-class communities, self-expression and escapism — the second in her trilogy following the modern classic A Bunch of Amateurs.
Released by Tull Stories and co-produced by Labor of Love Films, One Wave Films and Tigerlily Two, with support from Ffilm Cymru Wales, BFI DocSociety, Screen Scotland, Screen Yorkshire and MET Film Sales. The Welsh Trainee Producer is Bethan Tanner.
