Career Booster Fund

Next Deadline: 28 November 2025

The Career Booster Fund provides flexible support to individuals to help get them to the next step in their career, recognising that a career in the film industry requires more than just a brilliant film idea.

We know that identifying valuable opportunities in the film industry can itself be confusing and often still comes with a price tag that would be inaccessible for many. This is why we created the Career Booster Fund, providing up to £10,000 of grant funding to Wales born or based writers, directors or producers (hereafter referred to as Welsh filmmakers).

We know that everyone would benefit from support of this kind but as we have a limited amount of funding, we will prioritise applications from new or emerging filmmakers and which are likely to have the biggest impact on the applicants’ career in film.

Eligibility Criteria

You can apply for Career Booster funding if:

  • You are over the age of 18 and not in full-time education;
  • You were born or are currently based in Wales;
  • You are on a trajectory to write, direct or produce a feature film (including feature animation and documentary) for cinema audiences. Practically this means that you may have made some work for screen or in a related artform and have some feature ideas in mind, or you may be in advanced development on a feature film. You must have an ambition to make a cinematic feature film but must not have led on a feature film (whether live-action, animated or documentary) that has received commercial UK distribution.

We are particularly keen to receive applications that benefit individuals who identify as: from an under-represented race or ethnicity; D/deaf, disabled or neurodivergent; or are from a socio-economically disadvantaged background.

What we can fund

There are three strands of support that we can offer: travel grants, opportunity grants and showcase funds. See below for more information.

Across all three strands, we encourage applicants to also ask for support with any costs associated with the activity and with their relationship with a protected characteristic (for example Disability), with their socio-economic status or with being a parent or carer (see Access and Inclusion Costs).

  1. Travel Grants: We can offer travel grants for up to four individuals to be able to take general meetings in Cardiff, London or other media hubs in the UK that would be beneficial for their career over the course of six months.
  2. Opportunity Grants: We can offer support for participation at industry-recognised events and training opportunities.
  3. Showcase Funds: We can support with the costs of developing your showreel or professional website.

How much can I apply for?

Up to £10,000 (We expect the majority of awards to be far lower than this and in the range of £500 to £3000.)

What are the deadlines for applications?

  • 28th November 2025, midday
  • 27th February 2026, midday
