Film Education
As of 8th February 2023, the BFI have announced a new, centralised approach to their support for film education across the UK.
From April 2023, Into Film and National Saturday Club will be delivering against the BFI’s film education objectives for ages 5 to 18, and we look forward to continuing our long and fruitful working partnership with them. We share an ambition to ensure film is for everyone in Wales and Into Film are well placed to appreciate the devolved context in which education operates, which bodes well for a tailored offer that responds to the needs and opportunities across Wales, whilst we welcome the expansion of the National Saturday Club offer across the UK.
This new approach to the National Lottery funding of Film Education in Wales means that, from April 2023, Ffilm Cymru Wales will no longer be offering Film Education funding for providers in Wales. We are waiting to hear if there will be funding opportunities open to film education practitioners through either a project application route or procurement of services through Into Film and/or National Saturday Club, and we will strive to signpost opportunities as best we can during this transitional period.
We are particularly keen to ensure clear pathways from the film education offer through to vocational training and talent related opportunities delivered through Ffilm Cymru and otherwise.
Ffilm Cymru Wales continues to offer opportunities to inspire creative learning, build skills and broaden inclusive routes into the creative industries, in addition to vocational skills and training-based support. We will continue to share resources, examples of best practice and learning from a range of recently supported education and skills-based projects, which you can find here. You can find more about our support for writers, directors and producers here, and our training offer here.
Further updates on BFI Skills Clusters is expected in March. We’ll keep this information note updated.
