Connector: 104 Films & Hijinx Theatre Company

This project, which ran from 2018-2019, was a collaboration between Cardiff-based, disability-led theatre company Hijinx and 104 Films – the world leaders in disability cinema.

Supported by Ffilm Cymru and BFI NETWORK Wales’ Connector Fund, the aim of this project was to develop film projects driven by the creative performers at Hijinx, building on the success of the Different Voices film project which 104 Films had led in Bristol with Biggerhouse Films.

The partners decided to work with Biggerhouse Film in developing and producing a number of short films. Six short films were developed, which involved scripting and imagining, and three were produced:

In producing their own films, creative performers at Hijinx hugely developed their understanding and confidence of the filmmaking process. The films were selected to premiere at the Encounters Short Film Festival in 2019, which was attended by the filmmakers. They also screened at the Inclusion Film Festival in North Wales.

The collaboration between Hijinx and 104 Films has since led to further film projects and a NeuroDiverse animation workshop and conference at Cardiff Animation Festival: cardiffanimation.com/different-voices-workshop.
