Young people at the Wicked Wales Film Festival

Wicked Wales Workshops

Hijinx spent two days at Wicked Wales International Youth  Film  Festival,  seeing  Hijinx  Academy  North and South actors participate  in inclusive filmmaking workshops with pupils of Ysgol Tir Morfa, led by Tom Barrance from Learn About Film.

Outcomes

  • The participants all gave a lot of passion and dedication to the project, with huge amounts work and learning done by all participants, with excellent focus throughout the filmmaking process.
  • The project took a truly collaborative approach to making the final micro-shorts, both in terms of sharing creative ideas as well as learning from each other in addition to the tutors
  • The films created were diverse, exciting and shot with a real sense of fun. They were premiered at Wicked Wales festival, where their achievements were recognised by an extremely warm response and an award.

Successes

The major success was providing learning disabled adults, and young people with Special Education Needs, filmmaking skills to which they would otherwise have not had any access. This is particularly the case for those from the Prestatyn region. The intensity with which they worked, and the instant collaboration they created, was fantastic. Coupled with the impressive results of their learning (the micro shorts made in half a day) meant that the project was a real success, and the participants have gone away with greater understanding of filmmaking and stronger – or indeed completely new – filmmaking skills.
