Welsh film stars shine at BAFTA Cymru

Ffilm Cymru Wales-supported films took home five awards at Sunday’s ceremony.

The awards night was hosted by BBC Radio 1 presenter Huw Stephens, at St David’s Hall, Cardiff, where presenters included actresses Alexandra Roach and Vicky McClure and actors Tom Cullen and Peter Capaldi.

Euros Lyn won Best Director for Welsh-language thriller Y Llyfrgell / The Library Suicides, while another film produced through Ffilm Cymru Wales’ Cinematic scheme The Lighthouse, won Best Special and Visual Effects.

Jack Parry-Jones won Best Actor for his hilarious and moving performance in Celtic coming-of-age comedy drama Moon Dogs. Jack can currently be seen opposite Y Llyfrgell lead Catrin Stewart in S4C’s latest drama series Bang.

Cinematographer Richard Stoddard picked up the Best Photography and Lighthing for Fiction award for Welsh horror Yr Ymadawiad / The Passing.

And up-and-coming writer-director Ewan Jones Morris’ film This Far Up won best Short. The film was produced through BFI NETWORK and Ffilm Cymru Wales’ Beacons short film scheme, which is due to open for a third round shortly.
